WWE's website is reporting that Roddy Piper would be announcing a new protege soon. Matt Sydal was given a new ring name at last night's ECW and Smackdown tapings in Fresno. Sydal will now be known as Evan Bourne. The new name isn't really needed but what the hey. I bet the protege will be Drew Galloway

According to a new report, Michael Hayes is expected to return to WWE either this week or next week. There was talk that he was supposed to be at last night's Raw taping in Salt Lake City, but he is scheduled to be at the June 24 Smackdown tapings in Houston. Most of the booking for Smackdown has reportedly been in a holding pattern since Hayes was suspended. Upon his return to WWE, Hayes will be brought back as a writer, but he has been demoted from being a company Vice President.
Hayes' suspension from WWE was more than just a punishment with two months off. In addition to losing two months of salary, Hayes had to go to sensitivity training and alcohol recovery classes. As a result of his demotion, Hayes will not be eligble for stock grants and performance bonuses, which are said to be well into the six figures if profit goals are reached. So, Hayes took quite a financial hit as a result of his suspension. Most feel the demotion is justified seeing as the company doesn't want a Vice President who is now known to have used racial remarks.
In addition to the sensitivity training and alcohol recovery, Hayes also had to agree not to drink alcohol while doing anything associated with the company. This applies to on the job in Stamford, on the road and even after shows and at parties with talent. There was said to be talk of having Hayes take antabuse, which is medication that makes someone vomit if they consume alcohol. It's no secret that Hayes' drinking lifestyle is legendary among those in the business, but his behavior in the past is what has gotten him into trouble. Alcohol has been a huge part of Hayes' lifestyle for the last 30 years, so many aren't willing to bet his return will be a successful one.
It should also be noted that Hayes had to sit down with Mark Henry to clear everything up. While this hasn't been confirmed, there was talk Hayes would be doing the same with other African American wrestlers in the company as well. At this point WWE is going ahead with the mentality that Hayes is a strong part of the creative team, but they have also realized that they can live without him during his time away. Many feel one more screw up from Hayes will cause him to become more of a liability than he is really worth. Believe it or not, during a Legends roundtable edition of WWE 24/7 with Hayes, Mick Foley, Dusty Rhodes, Pat Patterson and Gene Okerlund, Hayes mentioned an angle where Harlem Heat debuted shackled in chains in WCW. Hayes was working in WCW at the time and he expressed his disgust with the angle saying it was wrong, outdated and a narrow-minded idea.

After recent reports stated that Carlito was unhappy and frustrated with his current role in WWE, he is now talking like he is willing to stay put with the company at the moment. Many feel this is the best choice for him long-term.
There is talk of wanting to transition Umaga's character to where he begins doing interviews for himself. Whether or not it will happen remains to be seen.
According to a new report, the latest idea for Ron Killings is to have him start on TV in July with a gimmick playing off his "Truth" nickname. Considering that gimmick was first created by TNA, many have found it to be highly unusal that WWE would go with that name. It is possible they could go with something different, but that was the talk as of right now. The company does feel they need to push more African Americans on TV right now because of the decline in that demographic and also want to get some new people in the mix.

As of last Thursday, Batista's move to Raw was being heavily considered at creative meetings and Triple H was reportedly pushing for him to turn heel to build for a Cena vs. Batista main event at WrestleMania 25. That match had actually been considered for WrestleMania 24 and when it didn't happen it became a plan for next year. Kofi Kingston and Bam Neely were also discussed about being pushed to Raw and the company ended up putting Kingston on the brand through the supplemental draft on Wednesday.
In regards to the switching of the announcing teams, the idea of switching Mick Foley and Jerry Lawler instead of Michael Cole and Jim Ross did some up and Vince McMahon was said to be negative towards it. When Kevin Dunn brought up what Ross' reaction would be on the air to doing it the way they did on Monday, it reportedly amused McMahon and the decision was made to go through with it.
Brian Gewirtz reportedly threw out an idea to have Ted DiBiase Jr. buy a draft pick somehow, but the idea was later shot down.

Rey Mysterio was not used on Raw this week because he still hasn't fully recovered from his torn biceps injury. It is little known that his bicepts got infected and required more surgeries after the original.
A decision was made to bring him in following the initial Draft show to shoot an angle with Santino Marella to get him over as a new star on Raw and use him in an easy match that didn't require much on his part. Mysterio is expected to be back in a few weeks to return full-time from that point on.

Lots of news coming out regarding the seven releases by WWE last Friday, with one being announced early on Thursday night involving Braden Walker (aka Chris Harris). Reports are that the company already had a lot of talent coming in and it isn't believed that any of the talent cut were going to do much for them in the future.
In regards the Braden Walker/Chris Harris release announced last Thursday, it was a rather quick release as he just made his TV debut in early July for ECW. His situation has been described as a guy who had a string of great matches in TNA and when he got to WWE, they were down on him and suddenly he didn't know how to work that style. The talk within WWE was that he went out there like a guy whose confidence was beaten out of him in his matches on ECW. Harris was said to have had a lot of heat on him to begin with in how he carried himself backstage, but no one can really pinpoint if he did one thing to cause that reaction among the wrestlers. One assumption is that he might have carried himself as if he had done something in the wrestling industry already in his time with TNA in the America's Most Wanted tag team with James Storm and in WWE, that is a big strike against you to have had some success elsewhere unless you come in and admit right away that what you did didn't count. The overwhelming opinion was that Harris didn't do well in his debut TV match with Armando Estrada on ECW and didn't come across well on his pre-tapes either.
It should be noted that a lot of people within TNA were described as being all smiles when hearing of Harris' release from WWE because many wrestlers have the idea in that leaving TNA for WWE that the "grass is greener on the other side", but that was not the case for a few stars who have made the jump (see Frankie Kazarian, although Monty Brown shouldn't really be used as an example since his family issues is what caused his eventual release).
As for the release of Big Daddy V, he was told some time ago to lose weight and apparently didn't do enough in his time off.
News on the release of James Curtis was rather quiet as he was in developmental for a long time and had a recent string of matches on ECW in a jobbing role. He wasn't well regarded among anyone besides Dusty Rhodes and with Rhodes no longer on the booking team, it pretty much killed his chances.
The release of Domino wasn't a huge shock to many after the Deuce and Domino tag team was broken up during the draft. He reportedly realized his limitations and might have been too forthcoming about them, especially when he was overheard saying that he knew Deuce would be the star of the tag team once they broke up. The funny thing about that now is since being traded to Raw, we haven't heard much from Deuce at tapings or on house shows.
Shannon Moore's release was made public a few hours before WWE officially announced it as Moore issued a statement on his official "MySpace" page. Moore was always described as a solid talent in the ring, but reportedly struggled in pre-tapes. The likely feeling was that the company had no real plans for him despite a re-debut in the early days of the new ECW on Sci Fi. Moore owns a tattoo shop in North Carolina that will be his primary business and is working with Bill Behrens to get booked on the indy scene. It should be noted that Moore is friends with Jeff Jarrett, which was how he got into TNA in the first place. However, the odds of him returning to TNA could be slim as on his way out of TNA in March 2006 he pinned AJ Styles on TV (a move that was second-guessed) and then got word to WWE that he was not working under contract with them and got a deal.
Not much to add on the release of Nunzio. He was described as a good worker, but they continued to bury him on the ECW brand and didn't have any major plans for him.
The release of referee Nick Patrick was interesting as he had been out of action undergoing back surgery and was expected to return soon. When he was gone, WWE hired several new referees. A few days after Patrick had underwent back surgery, he was in a car accident (he was reportedly rear ended) and suffered injuries and was back out of action again. The feeling is that WWE wanted younger guys in the referee role that weren't banged up. Patrick has been around wrestling for close to 30 years.

Former WWE star Nathan Jones was side-swipededly headed to TNA, more by a cement truck while jogging in Bangkok, Thailand and suffered severe damage to his left arm. A press release has indicated that Jones was preparing to make a return to pro wrestling for TNA, but nerve damage will sideline him for three months.
Here is the full release:
Giant Actor/Wrestler Nathan Jones Hit by Truck in Bangkok
BANGKOK, THAILAND--(Marketwire - September 8, 2008) - Giant Australian actor/wrestler Nathan Jones, winner of the world's strongest man contest, was side-swiped by a cement truck while jogging recently in the pre-dawn hours in Bangkok, Thailand. He suffered severe damage to his left arm. There is no report of what damage was done to the truck in its collision with the 6ft 11 in, 320 pound Jones. The driver took off, though there were witnesses and the police are pursuing leads.
Forty-year-old Jones had just signed a deal with wrestling organization TNA Entertainment to re-enter wrestling in the United States, but nerve damage to his arm will sideline him for three months, by which time doctors have told him he will be fully recovered.
His management company is also in final talks for Nathan to star in a U.S. motion picture franchise based on a series of horror novels in which he would play the screen's largest, most brutal and terrifying character.
Jones is a former WWA heavyweight champion and was a WWE wrestler for two years before returning to Australia. Nathan was "killed" by Brad Pitt in the 2004 film "Troy," battled with Tony Jaa in the 2005 film "Tom yum goong," fought in the ring with Jet Li in the 2006 film "Fearless," was thrown off a cliff by Steve Austin in the 2007 film "The Condemned" and played Humungus in the 2008 motion picture "Asterix at the Olympic Games."
Jones was in Thailand promoting his latest film release "Somtum," an action movie about a 7-foot-tall docile man who learns Muy Thai and then uses his new skills to help solve a case of stolen diamonds.
