February, 20th 2010: Bad Bones vs. Jon Ryan in Germany
One week ago, we announced Jon Ryan as the second nominee for Germany’s Catch Wrestling Norddeutschland. Now, the papers have been signed: CWN will open their 2010 season on february 20th in Tangstedt, just outside of Hamburg – and the show is going to be headlined by the first round match in the tournament for the European Heavyweight Championship between the former german national champion and CWN fan favourite “Bad Bones” John Kay and the yet undefeated “Bad Boy Of British Wrestling” Jon Ryan!

Only five wrestlers are left to be nominated for the European Heavyweight title tournament. Italy’s ICW already nominated Lupo first, followed now by non other than probably the best wrestler to come out of Italy at the moment – “Il Gladiatore” Kaio. At only 25 years of age, Kaio has already wrestled in eight countries all over Europe and is a five time Italian Heavyweight champion now reaching for his international breakthrough. The first step for him is to win his first round match and move on to the big European Heavyweight title tournament.

Eight man tournament taking place in Germany, hosted by CWN and DPWProbably the question that has popped up the most in the past weeks has been: where and when will the tournament be held. Now we are finally able to reveal the scoop: At this time, the first round matches of the tournament are already taking place all over Europe so every country gets their taste of the tournament. The winners of the first round matches will move on to the quarter finals, which – along with the semi finals and the big final to determine the European Heavyweight Champion – will be held in a huge one-night-tournament. The tournament will be held on April 24th, 2010 at the Schützenhalle in Buchholz (Nordheide), Germany. Buchholz is in the north of Germany a few miles south of Hamburg and is easy to reach from various airports in northern Germany. The Schützenhalle has witnessed a first taste of wrestling in may of this year, when German UEWA-partner CWN held a big show headlined by a german national title match between “Bad Bones” John Kay and Absolute Andy. Locally, the show will be promoted by Germany’s Catch Wrestling Norddeutschland as well as Denmark’s Danish Pro Wrestling. More information regarding the venue, times and prices will be revealed in the near future. Presales are scheduled to start in early december. So far, Austrias “Rebel” Damon Brix representing WWPW of Switzerland as well as Scottish superstar Lionheart representing PBW have qualified for this big show with more qualifying matches taking place in the next weeks. Fight Club Finland joining UEWA, representing Finland !
Not even half a year in the business, the Union Of European Wrestling Alliances keeps on growing. We are happy to announce our eleventh member, Fight Club Finland, based in the finnish capital Helsinki making Finland the tenth country represented in the UEWA.
Fight Club Finland was established by Finland-born, Canadian-raised wrestler Starbuck and steadily keeps growing. FCF mostly consists of their own wrestlers but also feature foreign wrestlers every once in a while. There already have been talent exchanges with fellow UEWA-member Danish Pro Wrestling and will continue to do so in the future and have worked extensively since 2003 with Erik Isaksen and the NWF in Norway who are also a part of the UEWA.
UEWA is proud to announce FCF as the eleventh member, joining effectively november 1st. We at the UEWA are looking forward to having FCF as our newest partner and make UEWA a even bigger force. Currently, the following promotions are part of the UEWA at the day of this announcement:
- All Star Wrestling (Birkenhead, England)
- Catch Wrestling Norddeutschland (Norderstedt, Germany)
- Danish Pro Wrestling (Midtjylland, Denmark)
- Fight Club Finland (Helsinki, Finland)
- Italian Championship Wrestling (Milan, Italy)
- Norwegian Wrestling Federation (Oslo, Norway)
- Premier British Wrestling (Glasgow, Scotland)
- Pro Power Wrestling (Porthcawl, Wales)
- Riotgas Wrestling Alliance (Vienna, Austria)
- Shooting Star Wrestling (Yorkshire, England)
- World Wide Pro Wrestling (Tuggen, Switzerland)
As the tournament for the European Heavyweight Championship is already fully planned, FCF will not be part of the tournament itself. Of course, just like NWF, FCF will be present at the show as will all members at the time of the show, distributing talent to non-tournament action.

Chaos going to Germany! On january 2nd, in front of a capacity crowd of 1000 at Nykøbing Falster Boxingclubs annual new years show, the reigning 2-time DPW heavyweight champion Chaos defeated Prince Mohammed to advance to the second round. DPW received a special invitation to headline the boxing extravaganza, and it seemed to be a popular choice as the event this year broke all records by filling the arena for the first time. Chaos and Mohammed battled all over the arena for 15 minutes before Chaos hit his trademark DDT and moonsault for the win. Both men gave everything they had, resulting in lots of bruises, battered bodies and Prince Mohammed suffered a cut in his head. To make sure everything went according to the rules the match had 2 referees, one from Norway and an appointed official from DPW. Link to see pictures from the match and boxing event: folketidende.dk/billedserie/boksegalla-med-wrestling-i-nykobing Charlie Kid replaces Lupo !!! Unfortunately, italian superstar Lupo decided not to continue his wrestling career on a regular basis for personal reasons. As it is very uncertain if he will be able to wrestle any shows in the upcoming months, ICW had to take the bitter pill and announce Lupo will no longer be part of the tournament. He will be replaced by Italys most popular wrestler Charlie Kid who’s been a rising star in his home country lately and won everything you can win in Italy - except for the Italian Heavyweight Championship. Kid is the winner of 2008’s Il Numero One tournament, ICW’s version of the King Of The Ring, has won the interregional title, tag team title as well as the lightweight title. Now advancing to the heavyweight division, Kid is out for the biggest challenge in his young career, wrestling against Kaio on february 6th in Pavia, Italy in the first round of the European Heavyweight Title tournament. Thus, the current tournament tree looks like this: More information regarding the tournament will be available soon. Nominees:[/u] - #1 "Bad Bones" John Kay (Germany, CWN) - #2 Charlie Kid (Italy, ICW) - #3 „The Guv’nor“ Martin Stone (England, PBW) - #4 „The Prodigy” Paul Malen (England, SSW) - #5 Chaos (Denmark, DPW) - #6 “Rebel” Damon Brix (Austria, WWPW) - #7 “Hellvetic Warrior” Jamie Gardner (Switzerland, WWPW) - #8 Rampage Brown (England, ASW) - #9 Michael Kovac (Austria, RWA) - #10 Lionheart (Scotland, PBW) - #11 “Bad Boy Of British Wrestling” Jon Ryan (England, CWN) - #12 Kaio (Italy, ICW) - #13 “The Heavyweight House Of Pain” Stixx (England, SSW) - #14 Prince Mohammed (Denmark, DPW) - #15 - #16 still to come First Round Matches[/u] CWN: “Bad Bones” John Kay vs. “Bad Boy Of British Wrestling” Jon Ryan (February 20, 2010, Tangstedt, Germany) ICW: Charlie Kid vs. Kaio (February 6, 2010, Pavia, Italy) PBW: “The Guv’nor” Martin Stone vs. Lionheart (October 17, 2009, Irvine, Scotland) SSW: “The Prodigy” Paul Malen vs. “Heavyweight House Of Pain” Stixx (February 5, 2010, Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, England) DPW: Chaos vs. Prince Mohammed (January 2, 2010, Nykøbing Falster, Denmark) WWPW: “Rebel” Damon Brix vs. „Hellvetic Warrior“ Jamie Gardner (August 26, 2009, Häselgehr, Austria) ASW: Rampage Brown vs. TBA RWA: Michael Kovac vs. TBA

This past weekend saw a big step on the way to the European Heavyweight Title tournament in Germany on April 24th as two big first round matches took place. Paul Malen on his way to Germany, waiting for Chaos!First, on Friday night, “The Prodigy” Paul Malen was able to defeat his arch-enemy, the Heavyweight House Of Pain, Stixx in a hard-fought battle in Holmfirth, England to move on to the second round of the tournament. His appearance in Germany will mark his first trip to another country as a wrestler. In his second round match, he will have to face Denmarks top wrestler, the Danish Heavyweight Champion Chaos. Kaio defeats Charlie Kid to move to the second round! Then, on Saturday night, Italy’s top newcomer and fan favourite Charlie Kid tried to qualify for the second round against well-established gladiator Kaio. In an exciting bout, the more experienced Kaio was able to come out with the victory and is now aiming for gold in Germany. His opponent for the second round has not qualified yet. Participant 15/16: Mikey Whiplash going for Gold! All Star Wrestling has just picked their second wrestler for the tournament. Having a big roster to choose from it needed some time to find a second wrestler who is worthy enough to represent Europe’s busiest promotion in the run for the European title. But their decision couldn’t have been a better one: Mikey Whiplash, who has found some great success wrestling all over Europe and is also the current British Tag Team Champion with his partner Robbie Dynamite is going to face Rampage Brown in the first round of the tournament – but only one of them will make it to Germany. Jewish Sensation debuts in Germany! In other news, UEWA already announced there is going to be non tournament action at the show. Now, we can reveal a big multimen match with some of Europe’s most talented middleweight wrestlers. The first wrestler who is going to be in this match is another one to make his Germany debut on this spectacular night. 16-year old jewish sensation “Israeli Icon” Noam Dar out of Tel Aviv, Israel but being trained and currently living in Scotland, is ready to leave an impression on the international wrestling scene. More wrestlers who will be part of this match are going to be announced in the next weeks. Thus, the current tournament tree looks like this: International Pre-Sale Starts!Tickets for this huge event will be available from february 12th, 2010 worldwide through our ticket distributor Ticketmaster, on their website www.ticketmaster.co.uk and national sisters sites, their ticket vendors as well as directly through CWN’s website shop.catchwrestling.de . ”Bad Bones” John Kay going to BuchholzThis past Saturday in the main event of CWN’s annual Norddeutschland Cup show, the german powerhouse “Bad Bones” John Kay was able to knock down “The Bad Boy Of British Wrestling” Jon Ryan with a Bicycle Kick and pin him in the middle of the ring after 16 minutes of nonstop-action which even started before the bell rung for the first time. With an impressive win over the previously undefeated Jon Ryan, Kay advances to the second round of the tournament where he will have to face the scottish Lionheart. After his win, Kay had the following to say: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRLwuCS2LykAustria withdraws from the UEWAIn the past days, there were some changes within the UEWA. First of all, our Austrian partner Riotgas Wrestling Alliance ceased operations effectively december 31, 2009. As a results of this, RWA is also not a part of the UEWA anymore. Since being informed by RWA owner Slash Power about the end of his promotion, we have been in negotiations with other Austrian promotions to possibly join the UEWA and take the RWA spot not only within the UEWA but also in the tournament. Unfortunately, we did not come to an agreement so at this point, Austria is not part of the UEWA anymore. Of course, this is also having effects on the tournament for the European Heavyweight Championship. As RWA is out of the UEWA and there is no direct follow-up, RWA will lose their spot in the tournament which also means the previously announced Michael Kovac will no longer be part of the tournament. Norway taking Austria’s spot in the tournament! The next promotion to join the UEWA was and therefore also the promotion to take the spot of RWA is the Norwegian Wrestling Federation. NWF’s first round match to decide who will be going to Germany! With Austria no longer taking part in the European Heavyweight Championship tournament, the Norwegian Wrestling Federation (NWF) are happy to announce their first round match to decide the NWF's quarter final participant in Buchholz. At the next NWF event this coming Saturday (13/3), the NWF have decided to give four wrestlers the opportunity to wrestle in a Four Man Elimination match to decide their wrestler in the April tournament. The four heavyweight wrestlers competing for the NWF's quarter final spot are: Garm Støylen could very well be described as an "NWF original". He made his wrestling debut at the NWF's historic first ever Norwegian wrestling event in 2001 and is one of only five wrestlers from that event who is still active in the ring. Garm Støylen's evil tactics and mindgames have made him a very dangerous wrestler for all opponents in Norway. On the European wrestling scene, he is a well kept secret but should definately not be taken lightly if he goes to Buchholz. When Superman, Spiderman and Batman are only film and comic book characters, Kaptein Knoke is a real superhero! The heavyweight superhero can be seen bodyslamming two opponents at once in the wrestling ring or defy gravity when he flies out of the ring, hitting opponents with topés. If he goes to the quarter final in Buchholz, he is most likely to be the most colourful character in the whole tournament. Everyone needs a hero, so why not a superhero? "Ikonet" Erik Isaksen is the veteran of the Norwegian wrestling scene and is described as the Icon of Norwegian wrestling. He has won several championships around Europe and has also wrestled in Japan. This past weekend at an event in Fredrikshavn, Erik Isaksen defeated Chaos, who is already qualified for Buchholz, and Tank in a triple threat to win the Danish Pro Wrestling Championship. The 130 kilos NWF newcomer Stig "Slegga" Mortensen might be Norway's strongest wrestler. Early in his career, he was the bodyguard for NWF wrestler Hans Christian Haandlycken. From hammering his rich employer's opponents at ringside, Stig Mortensen was given the well-fitting nickname Slegga which means "the sledgehammer". His alliance with Garm Støylen could end up as a major factor in the NWF's 4-man elmination match. When two wrestlers are eliminated from the Four Man Elimination match, the two last remaining wrestlers are those who officially will be placed in tournament tree for the European Heavyweight Championship tournament and wrestle for NWF's quarter final spot. Who will go on to represent NWF in Buchholz? Middleweight spectacular adds Michael Knight! As previously announced, there is going to be a huge non tournament middleweight match taking place in Buchholz. “Israel’s Son” Noam Dar has already been announced before. In this spectacular match-up he will be joined by non other than Germany’s fan favourite, ”The German Highlight” Michael Knight out of Norderstedt, Germany. The current CWN Middleweight champion who is also one part of the current DPW tag team champions One Knight In Paris in Denmark is one to watch out and is willing to prove his reputation as one of Europe’s findest middleweight wrestlers today. But he will not be the last wrestler in this match – more names to be announced really soon. Erik Isaksen winning four way match winning ticket to Germany! On 13th March, NWF's first round match of the UEWA European Championship took place at BUL-salen in Oslo, Norway. The four man elimination match between Garm Støylen, Kaptein Knoke, "Ikonet" Erik Isaksen and Stig "Slegga" Mortensen started in total chaos when all wrestlers brawled at ringside. In one of the most spectacular moments of the match, Kaptein Knoke's superhero topé crushed Isaksen on the floor. At 11:50 of the match, Stig "Slegga" Mortensen was disqualified for the use of an illegal weapon on Kaptein Knoke. Despite his superhero efforts earlier in the match, this quickly led to the elimination of Kaptein Knoke when he was pinned by Garm Støylen at 13:22. With only two wrestlers left in the match, Garm Støylen and Erik Isaksen traded the advantage over the next four and a half minutes, exchanging nearfalls to great reactions by the lively crowd. A missile dropkick to Garm Støylen's neck followed by a blue thunder bomb led to Erik Isaksen's victory close to the 18-minute mark. As a result, "Ikonet" Erik Isaksen enters the eight man European Championship Tournament to represent NWF in Buchholz on the 24th April. Red Devil and Kid Fite to enter six man spectacular! The six man middleweight non tournament spectacular is shaping up to be one of the most interesting matches of 2010. With Israel’s Son Noam Dar and the reigning CWN middleweight champion Michael Knight already in the match, two more wrestlers now signed to be in the match. Red Devil from Genova, Italy is one of Europe’s most experienced middleweight wrestlers having won various championships in Italy since his debut at age 16 in 2001. Red Devil has been the Italian lightweight champion, he is a two time Italian tag team champion as well as a three time Italian heavyweight champion despite being at only 84 kgs. Fourth man to join the match is Kid Fite from Scotland. Known for being Europe’s top tag team wrestler alongside his partner Liam Thomson, Kid Fite is a well experienced master of his craft. Despite being only 25 years of age he’s already wrestling professionally all over Europe for nine years. Having held eight tag team championships in three different countries, Kid Fite is now out to prove he’s as good in singles competition as in tag team wrestling. New Danish and Norwegian champions! In other news from the same event where Erik Isaksen qualified for the European Heavyweight title tournament, "Fremtiden" Victor Dale upset the massive 136 kg heavyweight Bjørn Sem to win the Norwegian Championship. Sem won the title in October 2007. Since his debut in 2004, Victor Dale has won the annual Norwegian Tag Team Championship Tournament twice with the late Isak Rain (2006 & 2007), but his win over Bjørn Sem is his biggest win ever as a singles wrestler. One week earlier, on march 6th in Frederikshavn, Denmark, Norway’s own Erik Isaksen proved himself to be one of the top picks to win the European heavyweight title when he defeated Chaos for the Danish Heavyweight Title. Chaos held the title for more than 400 days and defended it on 15 different occasions. International Pre-Sale! Tickets for this event are available worldwide through our ticket distributor Ticketmaster, on their website www.ticketmaster.co.uk and national sisters sites, their ticket vendors as well as directly through CWN’s website shop.catchwrestling.de .
